Website design for pharmacies in Uganda

For a pharmacy, being findable and being open are the whole business. Get the Maps listing right and the phone starts ringing.

Almost nobody researches a pharmacy. They search "pharmacy near me", look at what is open, and call or walk in. That makes your Google Business Profile more valuable than your website in the first month, and the website's job is to back it up and take delivery orders.

We set up both together: a verified Maps listing with correct hours, and a simple site that shows what you stock, where you deliver and how to order without coming in.

Two things decide where people fill a prescription: whether you have the item, and whether they believe it is genuine. Counterfeit medicine is a real worry in Uganda, and a pharmacy that says where it sources stock, that it is licensed by the National Drug Authority, and that a pharmacist is physically present during stated hours is answering a concern most competitors ignore entirely.

Your steadiest business is not the person with a headache. It is the customer collecting the same medicine every month for blood pressure, diabetes, asthma or HIV, and that customer chooses one pharmacy and stays. Say on the site that you keep chronic medicines in stock, that you can order in what you do not have and how long it takes, and that a customer can message ahead so it is ready. Adding a monthly reminder on WhatsApp costs you nothing and holds the customer better than any discount. Repeat business is what keeps a pharmacy open, and it is worth a page of its own.

The mistake we see most often

The commonest and most expensive mistake is wrong opening hours. A pharmacy listed as open at 9pm when the shutter is down loses that customer permanently and collects a one-star review on the way out.

What a pharmacie website needs

  • Accurate opening hours, including late nights and Sundays
  • Delivery areas and charges, boda or courier
  • A prescription enquiry route - photo of the prescription on WhatsApp
  • What you stock beyond medicine: baby care, cosmetics, devices, tests
  • Exact location, because pharmacies live and die on walk-ins
  • Your pharmacist and licence details, stated plainly

Included as standard

Every site we build leaves our hands with all of this. None of it is an extra.

Written to be found

Page titles, headings and text built around what your customers actually type into Google.

Fast on slow connections

Compressed images, no page-builder bloat. Pages open in about two seconds instead of eating someone's data.

Yours to edit

A login, a training session and a recording. Change prices and photos yourself, whenever you like.

What it costs

A pharmacies website usually lands in the Starter package, from UGX 350,000. Half to start, half at launch.

Domain and hosting are separate and paid to the hosting company - roughly UGX 150,000 to 300,000 for the first year, registered in your name.

Questions from pharmacies

Can we sell medicine online?

Selling prescription medicine online carries real regulatory obligations and we will not build something that puts your licence at risk. What works well and is straightforward: an order enquiry where the customer sends a prescription photo, you confirm availability and price, and you deliver. Non-prescription items can be listed and sold normally.

Is a website worth it for one small pharmacy?

Start with the Google Business Profile, which is free and which we set up for UGX 100,000 or free with a website. If most of your customers come from the neighbourhood, add a starter website once delivery orders are worth chasing.

How do we handle delivery orders?

A WhatsApp order button with your delivery zones and charges listed on the page. The customer sends the prescription or list, you confirm, a boda takes it. No system to learn, no monthly fee.

How do we handle prescription enquiries online?

Take the enquiry, but never the diagnosis. Invite customers to send a photograph of a prescription on WhatsApp so you can confirm you have the item, the price, and whether to set it aside - that is stock checking, which saves them a trip and is entirely appropriate. What you must not do is advise on what someone should take based on symptoms described in a message, or dispense prescription-only medicine without a valid prescription presented properly. Say on the site that a licensed pharmacist is available during your stated hours and name your NDA licence. Publish prices for common over-the-counter items. Being the pharmacy that reliably tells people what is in stock before they travel is worth a great deal.

Are we allowed to advertise medicines on our website?

Be careful here, because the rules are real. As a general rule you may describe your pharmacy, your services, your hours and the categories you stock, but you should not advertise prescription-only medicines to the public or make claims about treating conditions. Prices for prescription items are safest handled as an enquiry rather than a published list. What you can publish freely is everything around the medicine: where you are, when you open, whether a pharmacist is on duty, delivery areas, services such as blood pressure checks, and the general categories you keep. Confirm anything specific against current National Drug Authority guidance, and when in doubt describe the service rather than the product.
